Traditional attendance systems based on manual roll calls and paper records require considerable time and may result in errors during attendance recording and record management. This project presents a Smart Attendance System Using Face Detection with Biometric Backup and Automated Excel Report Generation for efficient and reliable student attendance management. The system provides a user interface through which subjects can be selected, new students can be enrolled, and attendance sessions can be started or stopped. For an enrolled student, the laptop camera captures the student's face and the system performs face recognition to automatically mark attendance for the selected subject. If the face is not successfully recognized, the system activates fingerprint authentication as a backup method. The fingerprint sensor is interfaced with an ESP32 development board, while an OLED display provides system status information. For new students, the enrollment process includes capturing and storing facial information and registering the student's fingerprint. The hardware unit is powered using a rechargeable battery with a DC-DC buck converter. After the attendance session is completed, the system processes the recorded data and generates a subject-wise Excel attendance report. The proposed system reduces manual effort, provides an additional authentication method when face recognition fails, and simplifies attendance record management. Overall, the system combines computer vision, biometric authentication, embedded hardware, database management, and automated report generation to provide a practical attendance management solution.
